A Special Halloween Treat Inspired by Edgar Allen Poe

Most of you know I LOVE to write psychological thrillers, probably more than any of the other genres I write. So, I though I'd offer a little piece of flash fiction I wrote long before Transcend and my first journey into the mind of madness....

I called it, the Research Assistant. But really, it is best titled Heartache:

Ellen waited in anticipation for the class to end.  Dr. Jenkins had promised her a chance to be his research assistant on one of his current projects – some ultra secret venture in the field of human engineering.Or so she thought.Dr. Jenkins was a bit of a rock star at the university.  His research had made its way into mainstream media and he spent many days making appearances on Oprah and the Nightly News.  The university ate up the publicity, blindly throwing money at each of his new endeavors.  Ellen watched her professor as he finished his lecture on the biochemistry of emotions.  She fantasized about him often - his dark hair and steely eyes making their way i…

IT'S HERE!!! LIBERA ME IS HERE!!!

I am SO HAPPY to announce that my publisher is nothing short of amazing!!! Despite tardiness on my part, crazy publishing busyness, etc, THE BOOK IS OUT!!!

Yep, that's right, Libera Me is officially in the world!
The Blurb:

What happens when everything you’ve sacrificed for is lost?
Aydan thought Nesy’s death would be the end of him, until he meets Nessa and his hope is restored. Could she be Nesy reborn? He is certain she must be. That is, until her lack of memories and incessant nightmares begin to erode his faith.

Zane is used to trusting his mind, his wisdom and his angelic senses. But these attributes are no help with Nessa. He has no way to be certain of her identity, no way to know the truth. That is, unless he listens to the one thing he has refused to acknowledge throughout his existence - he feelings for Nesy.

Blind to both angel and demon, Aydan and Zane must figure out the truth behind Nesy's identity before all is lost, Azza discovers the truth and the Beast is aga…

A Free Read to Prepare for Libera Me

As I mentioned earlier, it looks like Libera Me is going to be delayed a few days. But, hey - it's perfect news!!!
"Why?" you ask.
Because, now you can read up on Zane and make sure your ready for everything Libera Me has to offer. To start, the FREE download of Mea Culpa, Zane's story and the bridge to Libera Me. It really is a MUST READ. Look at what others are saying:
"...get a glimpse into a tortured soul who would do anything for a friend that he loves dearly." - Heather McCorkle, Author of the Channeler Series and To Ride A Puca"It is lyrical, it is poetic, it possesses your soul. Another amazing piece of writing." - The Cover Contessa"(Zane) has so many layers to him, I can't help but want to explore each one of them." - Black Lillies Are Deadly Reviews
Here is the "official" blurb for the story: Everything has a price, especially duty. And love.  Azza's attacks are always deadly...ALWAYS. But that was before Nes…

The Tour, NaNo, Giveaways....Oh My!!

First, I wish all of my East Coast buddies a safe day. Hopefully the storm is not ravaging too badly outside your window today.
Now, I have so much to talk about, to report...
First - how many of you have tried the Angelic Order Quiz??? So far, I know of several Mediators, Sentinals and even an UnHoly or two. Click here to complete the FB quiz. And be sure to let me know how yours turned out.
On to NaNo news. We are a mere two days from NaNo - the month in which a few crazy writers commit to drafting a 50K novel in 30 days. It sounds daunting I know...and in fact, it is! I have attempted it three other times. Completed it only once. This year will also be a stretch. I won't be posting any word counts until after Nov 9.
Why you ask? I have major edits (final edits) due on Nov 9 for my nonfiction, so nothing happens until then are completed.
Then I am all about NaNo.
So, how will I prepare to write roughly 2400 words a day? By outlining, of course! (Those that know me knew I wou…

The Changing Nature of Friendships

I normally use this blog to talk about writing, books, promotion and the like. But this morning I woke up in a highly contemplative mood. Nothing new, really. Those that know me know that I tend to overthink just about everything. It's part of my normal intensity and something I've grown accustomed to.

This morning's contemplation was about changing friendships, support systems, etc. My daughter had I had a great conversation about this last night - the way in which her support system has changed over the last year. We talked about how mine had shifted and changed, about our feelings with such changes. She said something to me that I thought  was so true...
"It isn't about missing my friend, it's about missing the concept of that friendship. I mean, she's changed. So it isn't her I miss really. It's what we were to each other that I miss."

So wise, right?!?

Friendships do ebb and flow over time. They change and deepen. And sometimes they fade …

Rise of a Rector Tour - Introducing Fane:

The final novel in Heather McCorkle’s channeler series, Rise of a Rector, has released! To celebrate, and in the spirit of October, Fane from the channeler series is here to tell us about a scary moment in his life. Take it away Fane!

Fane: My cousin, my only flesh and blood anywhere near my age, was being attacked by two boys in the middle of a party. No one was helping her. I crouched in the shadows, indecisive. If I helped her then I risked exposing my family’s secret, one that would endanger all our lives if the people of this town knew. But the boys were overcoming her. I couldn’t let them hurt her so I swallowed my fear and jumped in the fight.

Check out Heather’s blog for a new tour stop each day until November 2nd. To thank her fans, and future fans, Heather’s historical fantasy novel (a standalone novel that ties into the channeler series) will be free Friday November 2nd and Saturday November 3rd on Amazon. And if Heather gets over 1000 downloads of To Ride A Puca in thos…

Blog Chain Time: Books and Movies, Oh My...

I'm so excited to let everyone know that my Blog Chain has been reorganized and re-started! These are such a great group of writers, and I am thrilled to be part of this.

This time the topic comes from Michelle who asked the following:

There are so many book-to-movie adaptations out there. Which are your favorites? Which are your least favorites? Why? Do you make sure you've read a book before you go see the movie adaptation, or do you prefer to read it after, or not at all?

Film adaptations - what a great subject. I love books. And I love movies. But, do I love books that have been turned into movies? The short answer...sometimes.

There have been a couple books-to-movies that are brilliant. The Lord of the Rings trilogy, for example. These are the exception, however. That is not to say that I dislike books that have been turned into movies. I just view them as completely separate things, each to be enjoyed on its own merits. I don't look for comparisons...if I did, I think…

I’ve sat here and written a dozen posts—in my head. All the while the blank white page mocked me. The blinking cursor singing, “Neener, neener, neener.” Yes, even cursors can mock you when you run out of words.I don’t usually run out of story-words. I…

A Rose By Any Other Name...2.0

I'm so excited to let everyone know that my Blog Chain has been reorganized and re-started! These are such a great group of writers, and I am thrilled to be part of this.

This time the topic comes from Kate who asked the following:

What's in a name? What if Harry Potter had been Larry Snotter? What if Edward was Jacob and Jacob was Edward? What favorite books had character names that you loved or hated? And how do you come up with your own character names?  (And for the record, I had no idea we named our post the same thing! SO FUNNY!!! So I added the "2.0"!)

Names...I love names. I think they often reveal subtle things about the character. For me, I am as careful with the names I pick as I am about anything else. I research the meaning, make certain it matches my intent, etc. Names are kind of a big deal to me.

I remember being asked by someone to change Azza's name back in the early days of Lacrimosa. She wanted me to have it start with something other than &quo…

The NEXT BIG Thing (A Tag-fest)

I am thrilled be have been tagged by C.M. Keller, author of Screwing Up Time,  as part of The Next Big Thing, Week 16.

This meme is a chance for authors to tell you what they are currently working on - their next novel. Authors answer several questions and then tag other authors.

Since I am currently working on several projects, including the final in the Requiem series, and other companion/series novels, I thought I would focus this post on something new...something exciting...something different...

What is the working title of your book?
As of right now, the working title is Beautiful Mess.

Where did the idea come from for the book? After I finished Transcend, I brainstormed two additional psychological thrillers, just in case I found representation and sold the book - I wanted the potential for a multiple book deal. Needless to say, things went a little differently than I had planned. So now that I am exploring the wealth of opportunities authors have now, I decided to dust off the id…
