OMGoodness...20 days!

Can you believe it???

20 days until Transcend releases.

I've been very busy behind the scenes writing posts for the Blog Tour, prepping for a Live Chat with fellow author Heather McCorkle, coordinating a Twitter Chat, and arranging the giveaways for a Goodreads Q&A and a Facebook Party.

So dang exciting, yes???

In fact, I'm so excited, I thought I'd share my latest obsession - "Till I Hear You Sing" from Love Never Dies. The song perfectly captures the essence of my main character, Ien Montgomery's heart.

What do you think? Are you as excited as I am??

Oh! And before I forget, here are the winners from the Libera Me Cover reveal giveaway -

Annotated copy of Libera Me

Signed copy of Libera Me

Signed Copy of Lacrimosa

A New Cover ...and a Giveaway

WOO HOO!!!! The day is here! Time to share my new cover for LIBERA ME. Like I mentioned earlier this week, my publisher changed the cover to make it more in line with the other covers in the series and to listen to reader comments on the previous cover.

I have to say, I LOVE the new cover even more than I liked the previous one and I am thrilled!

Now, before I reveal it - here are a few little facts about book two in the Requiem Series:

  • LIBERA ME is told from Aydan and Zane's POV - but don't worry, the story is really about Nesy in so many ways
  • For  my Team Zane fans - you will get to know Zane MUCH BETTER!
  • For my Team Aydan fans - yeah, there is plenty of Aydan heat in this one
  • LIBERA ME is a darker, more emotional story than Lacrimosa.
  • There are some new characters in this book I think you'll love!
That's really all I can share this early. But who knows...maybe I will share a bit more down the road. I will say that a reader who won a previous contest and named one of the characters in this book...or at least, the character was "suppposed" to be in this book. What actually happened is this - I LOVED the name (Tristan) she choose so much, and the character that he became, that I am using him in a new series that I will talk more about in future posts.

One more thing before the big reveal, if you have not read the Requiem shorts - DIES IRAE and MEA CULPA, you really should. Especially MEA CULPA as it provides some fabulous backstory for LIBERA ME. The good news - both shorts are still FREE on Barnes and Noble and Amazon.

Here are the links:
MEA CULPA - Amazon and Barnes & Noble
DIES IRAE - Amazon and Barnes & Noble

And now...what we've all been waiting for. I have to thank the team at Compass Press and CP Designs for this cover. I totally love it!

Well? What do you think? To keep the party going, I am asking everyone to tweet or otherwise spread the word. I am so excited for this! Here is a tweet you can use to help spread the word:

  • Celebrate @chrstinef 's cover reveal for LIBERA ME with a special giveaway #YALitChat #Books #YAbookchat #Teen http://tinyurl.com/7c48jeu

And yes, I am hosting a special giveaway with it and giving away signed copies of books and more. Be one of the FIRST to read the story and see my thoughts throughout.

Winners, Winners

Before I get into tomorrow's cover reveal of LIBERA ME and a new giveaway, I wanted to announce the winners of the Transcend giveaway. (And thank you for making it so successful). But first, check out a little excerpt from a recent review from the Cover Contessa:
Wow, I'm not even sure where to start with this book. First, I would like to say that it is haunting, disturbing, beautiful, poetic, lyrical, mysterious, dark, creepy and sad. It produced in me such a range of emotions, I wasn't sure if I was coming or going. I was surprised to find that I did not cry when reading it, as I thought for sure the sadness brought about by the main character's struggle would have surely thrown me over the edge. I have never read anything like this before. It is completely different from books in the YA Genre that are out there today. It is totally set apart from every other psychological thriller you can possibly think of. I could not put this book down and was unhappy when I had to! I just had to know what was going to happen next; where Ien would take us down his twisted road. If you are a fan of Phantom of the Opera, you will absolutely love this book and you must listen to the soundtrack while you read this piece of art. If you like to read Edgar Allen Poe, then this book will take you down his same twisted, curving roads. It is such a powerful and deep story it will leave you completely breathless.
I am so honored and humbled! I wrote Transcend just after my mom died, at a time of deep grief. I have no words to describe how much the reader response has meant to me.

And now, the giveaway. After 200+ entries, here are the winners:

1) Signed copy of Transcend - Elle!!!
2) Prize pack of letters - Kristie Mathewson and Nobonita
3) Transcend Swag - Adele Symonds and Theresa Nowaczyk

WOO HOO!!!! All prizes will be mailed AFTER the release in mid September! Congrats

And, be sure sure to come back tomorrow for exciting information regarding Book #2 of the Requiem Series, LIBERA ME.

OMGosh....26 days and counting. EEP!

Today's the last day to get in on the TRANSCEND giveaway. I have to say, your responses have been great. And with a couple of arcs out there being read, I'm nervous. I know, I know...It's not like this is my first book release. But Transcend is a different kind of book. Not your typical book, I am quite nervous about the response from readers. The early reviews have been good, though. Like this one from fellow author Ali Cross:

Transcend is unlike any other book you have read...Its dark and twisty curves kept me too engrossed, too enthralled with what would happen, too determined to uncover the truth of Ien's world to think about anything real-life. The writing is lyrical, beautiful. The story is disturbing and intense and utterly unique--and in the end? In the end you'll listen to your favorite recording of The Phantom of the Opera and you'll feel as though you're hearing it for the first time. You'll finally understand the true tragedy of it all.
Thank you doesn't seem adequate to express my gratitude.

More review copies will be released in the upcoming weeks, and the release is a mere 26 days away. I'll be passing the time with two other manuscripts I am editing, as well as all the pre-release activities and preparations. Maybe this will keep my mind and my heart from freaking out...maybe not. (Yea, who am I kidding...I'll be freaking out. Definitely!)

Speaking of release fun - here is the schedule:

  • Sept 14 -  Special Q&A on Good reads Begins
  • Sept. 18 - TWITTER PARTY  hosted by Tiffany Mahaffy from Escaping One Book at a Time: There will be fabulous giveaways too!
  • Sept. 18 - Book Blast - yep, I am taking over the blogosphere on release day!
  • Sept 21 - Virtual Release Party on Facebook
9/24-10/5 - BLOG TOUR hosted by SupaGurlTours. Just check out the schedule:

Okay, back to freaking out....

OH! And be certain to make your way back here tomorrow on Friday for a NEW contest and the reveal of the new cover for Libera Me!

Aydan's Tat and other news...

Thanks for the great response on Friday to my opening pages. The giveaway is still going on through Weds. If you haven't entered, click here to get in on it all.

Friday brings a new giveaway...that's right, ANOTHER giveaway! And this time, I'm focusing on Libera Me, book #2 in the Requiem series releasing in late October.

To get you all in the mood, I thought I'd share a little picture of Aydan's tattoo that my publisher and I came up with.

The tattoo actually plays an important role in Libera Me, so yea.... You can bet I'll be having some cool swag involving the tat during the launch week.

Oh, and Friday isn't ONLY about a Libera Me giveaway...it's also my BIG REVEAL of a new cover for Book #2.

You heard that right, there is a new cover for book #2. After my publisher read the rewrite, and after a few fans spoke out with what they wanted for the cover, My amazing publisher redesigned the cover. And I have to say...I LOVE IT!

So, come back Friday for a little Q&A about Libera Me and the NEW COVER.

In the meantime, what do you think of Aydan's tat???

Transcend: A Sneak Peek and a Giveaway...

Yep, that's right...today's the day to share the opening pages of TRANSCEND and introduce a little pre-release giveaway to celebrate!

But first, a little about the story:

All seventeen-year-old composer Ien Montgomery desires is an escape from his family's rigid expectations for his life; someone to inspire his music. When he meets a beautiful violin-prodigy, Kiera McDougal, his life music takes on new life. With her, he imagines a future outside of his parents’ control. That is, until a horrible accident tears them apart. Sent to die in a sanatorium, Ien’s obsession for Kiera grows unbearable. Tortured by thoughts he can’t escape and the truth of his monstrous disfigurement, he flees, desperate to exact revenge on the people that ruined his life – his parents. But, vengeance is empty. Betrayed by those closest to him, Ien discovers that the price for his happiness may be his sanity.
And some early of the early praise:
This Phantom of the Opera-inspired tale is hauntingly dark and achingly beautiful. A story of love, loss, and obsession set against the decadent backdrop of historic New York that sucked me in and wouldn't let go, from the first page until long after I'd finished. Ien still haunts my dreams...
~Michelle McLean, Author of Treasured Lies

So powerful, so deep, and dark. It took me on an amazing journey into places most people fear to go...leaving me breathless.
~Heather McCorkle, Author of To Ride A Puca

And finally...what you've here for. The opening chapter of Transcend (drum roll)...

Well? What do you think? And the party doesn't end here. I have a fab giveaway for all of you too, featuring hardback copies of the book, e-book copies, Ien's love letters and some special swag (who doesn't LOVE swag, right?!?). Just complete the rafflecopter form below to enter:

Too fun! And yes...the party is JUST beginning! I have so many more fabulous things in store....

And now, other news. I am so overwhelmed by the fabulousness of all of you! My tours are booked (there are a couple of spots left for the Libera Me tour if you are interested), I have some amazing event-ish things planned, I am starting to plan a massive party...all fab.

But two of my favorite happenings are coming much sooner. Yep, that's right. Friday I am starting a special TRANSCEND giveaway in honor of the release of the opening chapter. That's right, you get a sneak peak on Friday and I can't wait to see what everyone thinks.

There are exciting things brewing for LIBERA ME too. After reading the final version of the book and some changes I'd made to the story line, my publisher decided they needed to go in a new direction for the cover. So, because they are AMAZING, they revised the cover. And let me just say...IT'S FABULOUS! To celebrate, I'll be hosting a little giveaway for it as well.

The crazy fun starts Friday. See you then. In the meantime, I've got edits to finish ;)

Why Write?

I once read a great book about writing in which the author challenged all writers to regularly ask themselves why they write.  Not the surface, “I write ‘cause I like it” kind of question, but the deep soul searching kind that requires the author to explore all of the reasons for it.
I did the exercise and really became clear on my personal reasons for writing. But, as life would have it, time went on and I didn't continue the exercise.
I published some books, felt the joy of connecting with readers and the sting of many many MANY rejections. And still, I didn't remember to ask myself the question again.
And time marched on, I considered quitting, I wrote more stories, and on and on.
Finally, a few years since that original exercise, I stumbled across the same book. And remembered that I needed to ask myself the question...again.
So, here are my responses to "Why do I write?":
  1. I am an adventurer at heart. Born with an insatiable curiosity, writing is an amazing way to explore all aspects of humanity, including the darker sides. It enables me to explore things that are scary and terrifying. And it enables me to connect with humanity on a deeper level.
  2. I write to share the common human experience with others. I am enriched by my readers and hope that I, in turn, offer something enriching to them.
  3. I write because I feel like I still have something worth saying. I am certain that the day I no longer feel that way will be the day I stop.
  4. I write for the experience of it. To me, writing is an experience that transcends the mere act of putting words on paper and creating a story from thought. The collective words themselves, both fiction or nonfiction, take on a life of their own, becoming the vehicle for teaching, growth, transcendence, and escape – both for me as the author and, with luck, to those who read the books.
  5. I write because I can...no I must.
So, those are my answers. Now it's your turn - both writers and non-writers. Why do you do what you do? You answers may surprise you.

The Amazing Ali Cross Talks About Desolate

I am so excited to have my dear friend and amazing author, Ali Cross, here to talk about Desolate, the next in her Desolation series. She sort of released this second book out without a lot of fanfare. So, not to let it go by with me making a big deal, I decided to have Ali over for a little interview. I'll be giving a copy of her book away later this week, so be on the lookout.
In the meantime, here's Ali:

CF: How did you write this second book? Was the process similar or different to the first?
AC: The process was absolutely different. 1) I actually outlined it (using the Save the Cat beat sheet method I love so much), 2) wrote the first draft in a month, 3) revised for a couple months and then 4) edits and fixes and ta da! Published. So from start to published, book two took about six months, while BECOME (book one) took, oh, about seven years. :D

CF: Given that Desolate is part of a series, was writing this story harder or easier?
AC: I think it was both easier and harder. Easier because I absolutely knew my characters, so I didn’t need to put in the time and effort to get to know them like I did the first time through. It was also harder because DESOLATE is tragic, terribly tragic. And it broke my heart to write it. I feel bad, too, because I think my readers are going to be sad.

CF: Any hints about the story or the series?
AC: Well, like I said, the second book is tragic, but it is the path Desi and Michael and James and Miri had to take. But I promise, book three offers . . . hope.

CF: Who are you most influenced by as a writer?
AC: Oh, such a good question. I think I’ve been most influenced by Guy Gavriel Kay, author of The Fionavar Tapestry. His writing is deep and poetic, so achingly beautiful—I hope that my writing can come even a teensy bit close to his. That someone might read my stories and feel what I felt when I first read The Fionavar Tapestry.

CF: What is coming next for you?
AC: Book three (yet unnamed!) will be out in a few months! In the meantime, I’m querying some middle grade stories, and finishing up two additional young adult stories to be published in 2013!

CF: Fav quote from Desolate?
AC: I grasped on to him while he curled his fingers around mine, and my forehead pressed against his and my name was on his lips and he loved me.

CF: Last words?
AC: Wow, that sounds so ominous. But I want to say THANK YOU for having me on and for giving me the chance to talk about DESOLATE. I’m so excited for the third in the series and for the story as a whole—I hope my readers love it as much as I do.

Thanks for stopping by Ali! I can not wait to finish reading this book. I'll be posting a review as soon as I do! WOOT!!!

Checking out LM Preston's NEW COVER for The Pack

When LM Preston told me she was releasing a new cover for The Pack, I was thrilled. This is a great book and the new cover just draws fabulous attention to the whole series. Now in case you haven't been lucky enough to read the series yet, here is a little more about it:

Shamira is considered an outcast by most, but little do they know that she is on a mission. Kids on Mars are disappearing, but Shamira decides to use the criminals most unlikely weapons against them the very kids of which they have captured. In order to succeed, she is forced to trust another, something she is afraid to do. However, Valens, her connection to the underworld of her enemy, proves to be a useful ally. Time is slipping, and so is her control on the power that resides within her. But in order to save her brother's life, she is willing to risk it all.

The book has been called "A treasure for scifi readers" by the Midwest Reviews.

LM Preston was nice enough to share a little excerpt from the book:

“Hmm… I guess the handicap girl can’t find her way.  Want some help?  Need a seeing eye dog?” Kim asked loudly and with a sarcastic inflection in her voice.  She spoke to her like she was born deaf.
“I can hear just fine, Kim.  How about you?” Shamira replied loudly like Kim.  She couldn’t help herself.  Playing weak was getting harder and harder the stronger the power grew inside of her.
The energy around her changed again when Kim and her other two friends pushed her between them.  Shamira stood in the middle of the circle and tried to appear off balance.  Although, when Kim spat on her, the dam of her control broke, and Shamira decided she would play the invalid no more.  She punched Kim lightly on the chin and then back-kicked her taller friend Megan in the chest.  Megan fell to the ground.
Shamira barely held her anger at bay while she remembered all the times she had allowed them to beat her up just so she could keep her secret abilities hidden.  She held Kim firmly by the neck, careful not to choke her.   Figuring she would be gentle with Kim, unlike Kim was with her.  She felt the air shift when Kim’s friend Shannon tried to run away.  Shamira threw all pretense of gentleness away and slammed Kim down with the hand that she held firmly to Kim’s neck in order to quickly pull at Shannon’s flapping braid.

Intriguing, yes? You can get The Pack at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other online bookstores. You can find out more about LM Preston at the following places:

Now, since you know you wanna go get The Pack now, why not also get Book 2, The Pack-Retribution from netgalley. You won't be disappointed!

And tell me, like the cover?
