Holy WOW!

Wow. Just Wow. The outpouring of support, encouragement, excitement and general good will for the cover reveal of TRANSCEND was nothing short of amazing. I am so deeply touched that I just had to post a quick post and say thank you.

As I stated during the week, this is a special book to me. Not only once it written as an outpouring of grief after my mother's death (and no, the creeptastic mom in the story is NOT my own!), but this particular story forced me to dig deep as an author - in terms of structure, storytelling, setting, character development, everything. I sincerely have no idea if people will like it, but at least I know they will give it a least based on your reactions to the cover.

I extended the giveaway through the weekend, to give people another chance to enter. And since you're here, entering, I thought I would share a couple of quotes from TRANSCEND:

My thoughts are quiet, but not calm. There is a terror on the edge of the silence, a terror fed by my …

IT"S HERE!!!!!!!!! The Cover to TRANSCEND!!!

WOO HOO!!!! The day is here! The one I have been leading up to all week. The day I reveal the cover to Transcend.

But first - a little more about the story:

All seventeen-year-old composer Ien Montgomery desires is an escape from his family's rigid expectations for his life; someone to inspire his music. When he meets a beautiful violin-prodigy, Kiera McDougal, his life music takes on new life. With her, he imagines a future outside of his parents’ control. That is, until a horrible accident tears them apart. Sent to die in a sanatorium, Ien’s obsession for Kiera grows unbearable. Tortured by thoughts he can’t escape and the truth of his monstrous disfigurement, he flees, desperate to exact revenge on the people that ruined his life – his parents. But, vengeance is empty. Betrayed by those closest to him, Ien discovers that the price for his happiness may be his sanity. And my first author endorsement from the author of Treasured Lies, Michelle McLean:
This Phantom of the Opera-insp…

Parties, Swag and More - What Will I Reveal Today?

We are almost there - almost ready to reveal the cover of Transcend!

For today, I thought I'd share a little taste of the bookish swag we have put together for this launch. And a little about the party. Because after all, what's a launch without a party, right???

The swag for this launch includes the typical bookmark, magnet, bookish fun. But I also have something very special planned - something that is included in this giveaway, and will be included for those who preorder the book with me, as well as those who buy the book (digital or print) in the first week.

What is it, you ask?

Well, Transcend is definitely a psychological thriller of the classic creptastic type. But, it is also a love story. Ien and Kiera's story. So, I thought it would be great to share with readers the love letters Ien has sent to Kiera throughout the story. While they are referenced in the book, readers only get to actually read one of them...until now. I convinced Ien to share five of his love l…

The Girls of Transcend Dish a Little Dirt

Here we are at Day 3 of my special week of reveals. The girls of Transcend are up today - and man, keeping them in check was a bit of a challenge. They asked to do a group interview. In fact, they were quite insistent about it. So, I will introduce you to Kiera, Jenna, Sister Agnes, and Mrs. Katherine Montgomery. And then I will attempt to keep them focused for a little interview (wish me luck)!

Katherine Montgomery - She is the matriarch of the Montgomery family and mother to Ien and Erik. Consumed with the need to maintain their elevated status, she is the true driving force behind the family. Nothing happens without her direct knowledge and consent.

Sister Anne - She leads a simple life, far removed from New York's aristocracy. To her honesty and love are the only things that matter.

Jenna Avery - Jenna works in the Montgomery household. Born into her current status, she knows that her place will always be that of servant. She is close friends with Ien and knows all of the fami…

The Boys of Transcend Share A Little Too Much...

Here we are at Day 2 of my special week of reveals. Today I'm introducing the boys of Transcend - Ien, James, Erik and Mr. John Montgomery. I asked each one of these characters to share one thing today - a fantasy or secret wish. Now, I will admit, I had to edit their answers a bit, redacting a few things. These guys were just too willing to reveal far too much about the story. Darn blabbermouths! But, hopefully what I left will work:

John Montgomery - He is Ien and Erik's father, and head of one of the most prestigious families in 19th century New York. Determined to maintain his family's status, Mr. Montgomery will do anything - and I mean ANYTHING - to keep the reputations of his boys above repute. When I asked him to share a fantasy, a wish, he chuckled and, well, here was the conversation:
John - "We don't indulge in fantasy in our family."Me - "But if you did-"John - "We don't."Me - "But-"John - "Okay, fine. If I di…

A Week of Secrets Revealed...

Welcome to a very exciting week filled with secrets, mystery and intrigue. Okay, that may be a little over-dramatic, but you get the point.

I am using this week to reveal secrets about me, my upcoming YA psychological thriller, TRANSCEND, and other bookish news...
All culminating with the reveal of the cover for Transcend, by far the BEST cover I have seen yet by CP Designs and Compass Press. I am so dang excited to share it with you!

So, to start things, I thought I'd share a little musical tribute to Webber's Phantom of the Opera, the inspiration behind TRANSCEND. This is a rock version by Nightwish, and captures some of the creeptastic macabre qualities of the story:

Man, I never get tired of the music - the classic and the rock versions! In fact, music has a very special special place in this book. Ien, the main character, is a gifted composer. And Kiera, his beloved - she is a virtuoso violinist. Later this week I'll bring two other videos of the violin music that in…

Finding Your Path

There have been lots of talk on the interwebz about traditional vs indie publishing lately - which one is more "professional", which is the "right" path, and whether or not that is even the right conversation to be having. Rather than add to the already crowded conversation, I thought I would share my personal view on my own path.

I am published with a small press for both nonfiction and fiction (two different houses). Two of my nonfiction book deals were secured with an agent. My fiction deals have all been secured by me with a brand new publishing house. It is true that I tried the agent, big publishing house route first with LACRIMOSA. And again with TRANSCEND. I was unsuccessful with that route. When faced with shelving both novels, I decided to give a small press a try. I had learned from my nonfiction experiences, which have been very successful, I could effectively market my work, so why not try with fiction. And I am thrilled with how things have worked ou…

You Know You Spend Too Much Time @ Starbucks When...

It's no secret that I LIVE at Starbucks...especially since I am in full edit mode and plan to hide in the cave until these edits are done, coming out only for work and a little family time. And since my "cave" is Starbucks...yea....well, you get the picture.

So, I thought I'd give you my own version of the

10 - Your clothes all smell like coffee
9 - The first thing you think about in the morning is your latte
8 - The baristas all know you name AND your drink order
7 - All the baristas at ALL of the Starbucks in town know your name and drink order
6 - Your husband makes a Starbucks run for you and the baristas all know it's for you the minute he starts ordering
5 - Your friends leave messages for you at Starbucks!
4 - Your parents, friends, co-workers, and family start buying your Starbucks cards
3 - You refuse to get coffee anywhere else
2 - You start basing characters off of the Baristas

Summertime, Summertime...and some excitement

I am so excited about this summer. Why? Certainly not because I am working my tail off all summer. And certainly not because of the MASSIVE deadlines bearing down on me. I am excited because I am revealing something exciting every month:
June brings an exciting cover reveal (more details on this below), July means the reveal of a book trailer and the opening pages of TRANSCEND, August will bring the exciting book trailer and opening pages of LIBERA ME. Of course there will be giveaways with each.Definitely an exciting time. And all in preparation for the back-to-back releases of TRANSCEND in September and LIBERA ME in October. Whew! Which brings me to the June excitement. In preparation for the cover reveal for TRANSCEND on June 29, I am inviting you to participate in the Transcend Masquerade Blogfest on June 29. Participation is easy, just sign up below, and write a blog post revealing something "secret" about yourself. This is a chance for us to get to know you better - the …

Never Surrender - Finding the Space Between The Words

I am thrilled to be part of Elana Johnson's NEVER SURRENDER blogfest happening this week. In addition to being one of my best friends, Elana is one of the most generous writers I know - and being able to support her after all she's done for the writing community is truly a joy!

Now, on to my entry. Elana asked us to talk about a time when we refused to give up - a time when surrender was NOT an option.

Immediately I thought of several things I could write about - the time I got stuck on a mountain plateau - literally - and HAD to face my fears and figure out a way off the mountain, or remain lost. Or maybe the time that I continued on a retreat, even though ALL of my friends bailed out, leaving me completely out of my comfort zone. Or pursuing my fiction career, despite shelving novels, getting rejections by the hundreds, and giving up more often than I'd care to admit.

But, after yesterday... I have a new subject for this post.

You know those moments in…

Holy Cow...Potential Disaster Averted

I spend a lot of time A LOT of time! So, I am particularly careful about maintaining my computer's safety. I change my passwords frequently. Keep my protections, firwalls, etc up-to-date. Scan for viruses regularly. Back up my files and save the important things on an external drive....

Okay, I am not as good as I should be about backing everything up. I was. Before. When I'd hear about friends nearly losing their manuscripts. I'd email it to myself nightly, just to make certain it was safe. But I became complacent. And nearly paid too high a price...

This morning I woke with an incredible scene in my thoughts - the revised ending to LIBERA ME. I wrote it in my thoughts, anxious to get a chance to write it in the ms. As is my routine every morning, I got ready for work, and left early, determined to steal an hour to write before the day job. I got my latte, set up at my local starbucks and plugged in the laptop.

As is also typical, my laptop screen was a little…

WWO - An Exciting Year Ahead

First, I just have to thank you all again for the excitement of the week - your comments, emails, tweets, etc, have been inspirational! Some of you have asked "what's next"...well, a lot actually. And I thought I should share it all with you. So, here is a breakdown of what I'm working on for the next year. Be sure to scroll down to the end to see ways you can participate in the upcoming fun.
 - As you know this is a Phantom of the Opera inspired YA thriller. Vastly different from both the Requiem Series and most other books, this is the story of Ien Montgomery, a young man born into one of New York's wealthiest families. Here is the blurb:  "All seventeen-year-old composer Ien Montgomery desires is to find his muse – someone to ease the burdens of his family’s rigid expectations and the recent death of his older brother. When he meets a beautiful violin-prodigy, Kiera McDougal, his music takes on new life. With her, he imagin…

More to Celebrate!

First, I have to thank you all for the fabulous launch day emails, downloads, reviews and general good will regarding MEA CULPA. Each book in the series - from novelette to novel - has brought these characters more depth than I can express. And your love of the characters and the stories has only added to my excitement as I bring each installment. I can tell already how sad I will be when it all comes to an end in a few more stories...
But that is for another day.

To THANK YOU and continue the celebrations, my amazing publisher, Compass Press, has elected to offer DIES IRAE for FREE for a limited time only (probably a week at the most). Go to Smashwords and download your copy today!

Also, the link for MEA CULPA is live on Smashwords too.

Just my way of saying THANK YOU for the excitement with the series - from Aydan, Nesy, Mikayel, Azza, Zane and Cass...

Oh Zane, What You Do To Me....

I am so excited to announce the release of my latest installment in the Requiem Series, MEA CULPA. Mea Culpa follows Zane, Nesy's best friend, as he fights to save her life. But, is he ready to shoulder the cost? Are any of them?

As it was with DIES IRAE, writing MEA CULPA enabled me to give you a glimpse into Zane's world and Zan'es perspective - something that bridges perfectly into the next novel in the series, LIBERA ME, coming in October. That story will further both Aydan and Zane's story as they wrestle with the outcome of Zane's choices presented in MEA CULPA.

As a THANK YOU to all of my readers, Compass Press and I decided to present MEA CULPA at a great price...

It's up on Smashwords right now. You can also get it here by filling out the form below.

Oh I love thee....The AWESOMENESS of SURRENDER continues!

Welcome to the Final Day of my SURRENDER Launch tribute. First, the winners of  yesterday's REGRET giveaway are:
JL Spelbring Jemi Fraser
And now - today's character feature - GUNNER:
Gunner is another fabulous character we get to meet in SURRENDER. And like Raine, I LOVE him! I think Gunner is one of the most relate-able characters in the series, and he'll definitely appeal to fans of the series. Just check out Elana's answers to my questions about Gunner:

Gunn longs to travel the world, and he’d love to go down under and see a kangaroo. He’s a fan of salty-and-sweet-in-one snacks, and he’d sit for hours in front of a projection screen watching skateboarding and snowboarding. His favorite band would be Linkin Park. You can see the other characters answers here - Vi (Tuesday), Jag (Wed), Zenn (Thurs), Raine (Fri)

As I mentioned in the original post, I am giving away 2 copies of REGRET EVERY DAY (Tuesday through Sat - Leave a blog comment daily to be entered) AND a special …

RAINE will never SURRENDER - more celebrations for the SURRENDER Launch!

Welcome to DAY 4 of my SURRENDER Launch tribute. First, the winners of  yesterday's REGRET giveaway are:

LAURA (fuonlyknew)

I didn't pick another as the others who commented have already won a copy - so I added it to the grand prize!! WOOOO HOOOOO

Congrats to everyone who has won so far this week...and keep entering!

And now - today's character feature - RAINE:
Raine is a new character, introduced in SURRENDER. Besides LOVING her name, I LOVE Raine - she is such a compelling character in so many ways. I can't wait until all of you read the book and tell me what you think of her as well....

But first, here is a little more about her based on the questions I asked Elana:

If Raine had been exposed to music her whole life, she’d love “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. She loves that kind of soothing stuff. She’d love to see the White Cliffs of Dover, and she’d give anything to watch Gunner fly in the Olympics. (Okay, maybe that’s not an event—yet.) Sh…

Launch of Awesomeness - Day 3

Welcome to DAY 3 of my SURRENDER Launch tribute. First, the winners of  yesterday's REGRET giveaway are:
Kayeleen and Leanne WOO HOO!!!

And now - today's character feature - ZENN:
So, I'll admit it - Zenn has never been one of my favorite characters. I know Elana probably wants to smack me at this point, but I am just too much of a Jag fan I guess. That and the end of POSSESSION.
All of that said, Zenn would be a very interesting character to write - deep, and very 3 dimensional.

So, as I mentioned in the original post, I asked Elana to tell me a few random things about the characters, including where they'd travel on earth, fav music and food, and a fav Olympic sport (if any). Here is what Elana had to say about Zenn:

Zenn can and does eat his favorite food day in and day out: toast. He loves the stuff—and what’s not to love? He doesn’t care where he is, as long as Vi is nearby. His style of music is a little bit country—the Zac Brown Band, particularly “Colder Weather.” H…

Launch of Awesomeness - Day 2

Welcome to DAY 2 of my SURRENDER Launch tribute. First, the winners of  yesterday's REGRET giveaway are:
CONGRATS to the TO RIDE A PUCA contest winner too - LAURA THOMAS

And now - today's character feature - JAG:
I have to say, I LOVE Jag (but don't tell my Aydan - he is prone to jealousy!). I joke with Elana all the time that Jag was my daughter's first real character crush. And I know there is more than one Jag v Zenn battle waging among readers. So, what did Elana have to say about Jag and his traveling, music and food loves:

Jag’s been all over the Association and his favorite spot is right next to the ocean. He has fond memories of his brothers when he smells the vast water. He doesn’t have much time to worry about sports or music, but if he had to choose, he’d go with beach volleyball and Bon Jovi. He eats whatever he can, wherever he can, but he’d never turn down a strong cup of coffee.  You can check out Vi's answers, and learn more about…

The Launch of AWESOMENESS - Day 1

Once again I get to wish my best bud success with another launch. Few things make me happier then screaming WOO HOO for Elana Johnson and her books.

Today, I get to SCREAM for SURRENDER. Yep, that's right, today is the official launch day for SURRENDER. And I just couldn't let the day go by without some sort of celebration...
so, I am doing a couple of things. Be sure to read the WHOLE post so you can get in on the giveaways...
First, I am bringing each of the main characters from the series to you in a very unique way. See, I asked Elana a few "simple" questions - what are the characters' favorite place to visit in our world, what are their fav Olympic sport, and what music/band would they like? Needless to say, Elana wanted to KILL ME. I think her exact words were "What? They don't live in the same world. They don't what Olympics or bands are... Music is forbidden in Freedom... And there's a huge wall around the city. They don't think of t…

Inspiration with Heather McCorkle (and a giveaway)

I am so excited to be part of Heather McCorkle's celebration of her latest book, TO RIDE A PUCA. I was fortunate enough to read the story early, and let me tell you this is one sexy and exciting read. You can see my review here.
Anyway, today I thought I'd bring a new interview with Heather. Be sure to read it through as she is giving away a book she likes on her blog (I am pretty partial to it too ;) ) and I will be giving away a digital copy of TO RIDE A PUCA at the end of the blog post. WOO HOO!!! But first, a little interview with Heather:
Christine: What inspired this story?
Heather: Promise not to call the people in the white coats? I’m not telling you until you promise. Okay, I was taking a bath (hey what can I say, something about water inspires me) and I may or may not have fallen asleep (that works to keep the white coats away, right?) when I heard a young woman’s voice. She wanted to tell me her story. I remember hearing her tell it as I watched  a horrible scene unfol…
